Post Modern
http://www.ontarioarchitecture.com/postmodern.htm This structure best illustrates the elements of Postmodern architecture that I wanted to incorporate into my work. The post modern period has strong lines and often seems to defy the laws of gravity, as shown in the stacking. Gothic https://jennyp12.wordpress.com/2010/05/14/gothic-architecture/ http://www.pitt.edu/~tokerism/0040/images2/271.jpg The Gothic period is famous for it’s Cathedrals of staggering heights. Every element of this architecture was intended to draw the views eye to heaven. The spires reach toward the sky and the traditional gothic windows create a luminous atmosphere inside the church or building. What I wanted to take away from this period was the height and the windows as a statement piece. Arts and Crafts http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/a6/df/ac/a6dfac60d4d84dca014a60104f7cbab3.jpg The Arts and Crafts movement is characterized by its pointed roofs and whimsical style. The façade of this architecture has the look of individual pieces put together in a cohesive way. This along with the whimsy and dramatic roofing, I tried to incorporate into the design of my paper buildings. Romanesque http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/middleages/images/0/0c/Mont_St_Michel.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20120801152942 Romanesque architecture developed in the late middle ages. It is characterized by its towers and massive scale. Mont St. Michel is perhaps one of the most famous structure of this period. In truth I picked the period for this castle. I was taken with how all of the individual buildings work together to create this monumental structure! I also love how it rises out of the water and stands alone, this was the major inspiration for the design of my relief sculpture. *Note the links to the sources for the following images are included in the explanation of the styles.
